Summary

We collect the data needed to help you use YouTube more intentionally: account data, your productivity preferences, YouTube video metadata, analysis decisions, watch-session timing, feedback, focus-control settings, summary prompts, summary results, and local extension cache data.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for personalized advertising. We use it to provide and improve YourTime, keep your account secure, comply with law, and respond to support requests.

Data we collect

Account and authentication data

If you create an account or sign in, we process your user ID, email address, authentication session, and basic profile details provided by the sign-in method you choose. Authentication is handled through Supabase Auth and may include Google sign-in.

Productivity profile and settings

We store the preferences you configure, such as your purpose, important topics, distraction triggers, allowed or blocked channels, daily budgets, strictness, session mode, extension presets, and Focus Controls.

YouTube video and browsing activity needed for the product

When the extension is active on YouTube, we may process the current YouTube URL, video ID, title, channel, duration-related signals, YouTube metadata, page context needed to identify the active video, and whether a video was allowed, warned, blocked, summarized, overridden, or watched in background music mode.

Watch sessions, events, and feedback

We store watch-session records and product events such as watched seconds, saved seconds, home-feed refresh counts, override counts, rabbit-hole warnings, manual feedback, feedback notes, and personalized rules created from feedback.

Summaries and chat prompts

If you choose to summarize a video or ask follow-up questions, we process the YouTube URL or video ID, title, channel, optional goal prompt, generated summary, ordered summary blocks, follow-up question, answer, model metadata, available captions or transcript text when needed, and cache information.

Technical, security, and request data

When you use the web app, APIs, or extension-connected features, we may process technical data such as request timestamps, endpoint paths, browser or device signals, error details, server logs, rate-limit counters, and IP address-derived security signals. For AI abuse prevention, we store a salted hash of the request IP address rather than the raw IP address when available.

Local extension data

The Chrome extension stores some data locally or in Chrome storage, including extension settings, API base URL, auth session tokens, recent decisions, watch progress summaries, pending offline events, cached summaries, cached summary chat answers, and temporary UI state.

How we use data

  • Analyze YouTube videos and return allow, warn, block, background, or summary recommendations.
  • Apply Focus Controls on YouTube, including hiding or limiting specific surfaces.
  • Track watch time, saved time, overrides, summaries, home-feed refreshes, and rabbit-hole patterns.
  • Generate, cache, and show video summaries and follow-up answers.
  • Sync your settings, presets, feedback, and dashboard stats across signed-in sessions.
  • Improve reliability, rate limiting, abuse prevention, security, debugging, and support.

Sharing and processors

We share data only when needed to operate YourTime, comply with law, protect the service, or complete a user-directed action.

  • Supabase provides authentication, database, row-level security, and storage for account-linked product data.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers process requests, logs, and operational data needed to run yourtime.dev.
  • AI providers, including Google Gemini directly or through Vercel AI Gateway depending on configuration, process video metadata, URLs, prompts, and context needed to produce verdicts, summaries, and follow-up answers.
  • YouTube and Google services may receive requests that are necessary for sign-in, video metadata, and video-understanding features.

We do not sell personal data, share personal data with data brokers, or use YourTime data for personalized advertising.

Google and Chrome Web Store Limited Use

YourTime requests only the permissions needed for its user-facing YouTube productivity features. The extension uses access to YouTube pages to inspect the active video, apply focus controls, show verdict cards, pause or hide blocked media, track watch time, and support summaries.

The use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The use of information received by the Chrome extension will also adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We do not use Google user data or Chrome extension user data for advertising, credit-worthiness, lending, or sale to third parties. Humans do not review user data except when you ask for support, when necessary for security or abuse investigation, when data is aggregated and anonymized for internal operations, or when required by law.

Technical data and logs

We use technical data and logs to operate the service, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, enforce AI usage limits, and keep account-linked data scoped to the signed-in user. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles or sell it to third parties.

Infrastructure providers may temporarily process server and HTTP logs as part of hosting, security, and reliability operations. Where logs or usage events contain personal data, we treat them under this policy.

Storage and retention

Account-linked data is stored in Supabase and protected by per-user access controls. Summary cache entries are designed to expire after a short period currently set to 3 days. Other account, settings, feedback, event, and watch-session records are kept while your account is active unless you ask us to delete them or we no longer need them to provide the service.

Local extension cache remains in your browser until it expires, is replaced, you sign out, you clear extension/browser storage, or you uninstall the extension.

Your choices

  • You can change your productivity profile, Focus Controls, presets, and feedback in the product.
  • You can disable the extension, sign out, clear local extension storage, or uninstall the extension.
  • You can request access, correction, export, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.
  • You can choose not to generate summaries or submit follow-up chat prompts.

Security

We use HTTPS, authenticated API routes, Supabase row-level security, and server-only secrets for privileged operations. No security system is perfect, but we design YourTime to keep user data scoped to the signed-in user and to avoid exposing service-role keys to client code.
